Explore the News app

The Apple News app on iPhone has tabs at the bottom of the screen that help you navigate throughout the app. The Apple News app on iPad and Mac has a sidebar on the left. To browse the categories: 

  • On your iPhone, select the tabs at the bottom of the screen to switch between different types of content.

  • On your iPad or Mac, use the sidebar on the left to switch between different types of content. If you can’t see the sidebar, select the Sidebar buttonNo alt supplied for Image.

Today

Today includes a feed of top stories curated by Apple News editors, and stories from the channels and topics that you follow, such as sports and local news. Your feed also shows stories suggested by Siri and trending topics that are popular with other readers. While you're reading, Apple News will learn your interests and then suggest stories that you may like.

You can read some news stories for free in the Today feed. But to access premium content, you need a subscription to Apple News+.

News+

Subscribe to Apple News+ for access to hundreds of magazines, newspapers, other digital publications and puzzles.

Sports

View schedules, scores, stat leaders and more. Follow your favourite teams to see personalised content, such as news and highlights.

Audio

You can listen to selected news briefings for free, or subscribe to Apple News+ to listen to audio stories on your iPhone and with CarPlay. If you have Apple News+, with iOS 17, iPadOS 17 or macOS Sonoma, you can listen to selected audio stories in the Podcasts app on your iPad and Mac, in addition to iPhone and CarPlay.

Audio stories are only available in the United States.

Following

On your iPhone, the Following tab displays all of the topics and channels that you follow and suggestions from Siri based on what you read. Here, you can also find your reading history, access your previously saved stories, see all of your Favourites and play puzzles.

On your iPad or Mac, all of these options appear in the sidebar.

Puzzles are available with an Apple News+ subscription.

Search for channels, topics and stories

To search for a specific channel, topic or story:

  • On your iPhone, select the Following tab. Then use the search field at the top of the screen.

  • On your iPad or Mac, select the search field at the top of the sidebar. If you can’t see the sidebar, select the Sidebar button Sidebar buttonNo alt supplied for Image.

Share stories with others

On your iPhone, iPad or Mac, open a story, select the Share buttonNo alt supplied for Image at the top of the screen, then choose how you want to send it.

Save stories for later

On your iPhone, iPad or Mac, select the Save buttonNo alt supplied for Image at the top of the screen to save the story for later.  You can find your saved stories in the Following tab on your iPhone or in the sidebar on your iPad or Mac. If you can’t see the sidebar, select the Sidebar buttonNo alt supplied for Image.
