How to send attachments in Mail on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Adding attachments in Mail is easier than ever before. You can easily change your font and format, send multiple photos at once, scan a document using your camera, and even sketch drawings from within the Mail app.

Get to know the new format bar

The new format bar features new and improved options for sending attachments in Mail. Here’s how to use it: 

  1. Open Mail and tap  to start a new email or open an existing email.
  2. Tap inside the body of the email.
  3. To see your attachment options: Tap gray arrow on the right side of the Predictive Text bar or tap Return.

Now that you’ve seen the new format bar, here’s how to use the new and improved features.

 

 

Change your font and format

  1. In an email, tap gray arrow or Return to open the format bar.
  2. Tap the font button .
  3. Select the font and formatting options you want, like text color, bullets, and more.

 

Add photos and videos

  1. In an email, tap gray arrow or Return to open the format bar.
  2. Tap the photo and video button , then choose your photos or videos. You’ll see a blue checkmark on each photo or video you selected.

The number of photos and videos you can send depends on your email provider. If you’re unable to send multiple photos or videos, add fewer, then try to send the email again. Contact your email provider if you have questions. 

 

Take photos and videos from your Camera in the Mail app

  1. In an email, tap gray arrow or Return to open the format bar.
  2. Tap the camera button , then take a photo or create video. 
  3. Tap Use Photo or Use Video. It will automatically attach to your email.

 

 

Add documents from the Files app.

  1. In an email, tap  or Return to open the format bar.
  2. Tap the file button , then choose the document you want to add from your Files app.

 

Scan documents from your camera

  1. In an email, tap gray arrow button or Return to open the format bar.
  2. Tap the scan button 
  3. Move your camera to capture the document. A blue box will indicate the area to be scanned by your camera. 
  4. Tap shutter icon. After you scan you can adjust the captured area. 
  5. When you’re ready, tap Keep Scan.

 

Sketch a drawing

  1. In an email, tap gray arrow or Return to open the format bar.
  2. Tap the markup button , then select your tools and create your drawing.
  3. When you’re ready, tap Done, then tap Insert Drawing.
