Intro to Looks filters in Motion

The Looks filters apply stylish visual treatments to image layers. In addition to all the filters available in the Photos app, Looks filters in Motion include cinematic color grades, such as Bleach, New York, and Chrome. Looks filters use look up tables (LUTs) to apply a color transform to an image layer.

Each Looks filter contains a single parameter control—Mix, which sets the percentage of the original image that’s blended with the filtered image.

There are 14 Looks filters:

• Bleach simulates a film bleach-bypass effect.

• California simulates the feel of a bright day at the beach.

• Chrome simulates the look of 35mm film.

• Cool adds a cool wash to an image.

• Fade simulates the look of a faded photograph.

• Instant simulates the look of instant film.

• Mono simulates the look of monochromatic film.

• Nevada simulates the look of a bright desert day.

• New York simulates the look of dusk in the city.

• Noir simulates the look of black-and-white film noir.

• Process simulates the look of cross-processing film.

• Sixties simulates the look of photographs taken in the 1960s.

• Tonal desaturates and brightens an image.

• Transfer simulates a film-transfer look.
