Learn about App Store security protections
The App Store is a trusted place where users can safely discover and download apps.
App Store apps come from identified developers who have agreed to follow Apple guidelines and are securely distributed to users with cryptographic guarantees against modification. Apple reviews every new app and update to evaluate whether it meets requirements for privacy, security, and safety.
This process protects users by keeping malware, cybercriminals, and scammers out of the App Store. In addition, apps designed for children must follow strict guidelines around data collection and security designed to keep children safe, and must be tightly integrated with iOS, iPadOS, and macOS parental control features.
App Store security protections include automated scans for known malware, human review by a team of experts, manual checks, trustworthy and centralized user reviews, and processes for correction and removal.
App Store apps can be purchased for an organization using Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager and can be distributed to users or devices using device management. Users with a Managed Apple Account can access the App Store if permitted by device management, but a Managed Apple Account can’t purchase from the App Store.
