Use Setup Assistant on Mac
A new or recently erased Mac starts at the Setup Assistant screen when the device is turned on. Setup Assistant walks the user through setting up and configuring the device. If the user is moving from an old Mac to a new or recently erased one, they have options for transferring data. Whether the device is user- or organization-owned could determine the migration path.
With Setup Assistant, users can configure essential settings, including language, Wi-Fi, Apple Account, and Touch ID.
If an organization deploys or manages a Mac, some of the Setup Assistant panes might be skipped. You should contact the device management administrator for organization setup instructions. For more information, see Manage Setup Assistant for Apple devices and Managing Devices and Corporate Data.
To make setup as smooth as possible, have the following available:
An internet connection through a Wi-Fi network: You may need the name and password of the network.)
An unmanaged Apple Account to access all Apple services: If the user doesn’t have an Apple Account, they can create one during setup.
A Managed Apple Account: Created by your organization with Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager.
The previous Mac or an iCloud Backup of the device: You’ll need this device or data if you’re transferring the data to a new device.
