Create key signature changes in Logic Pro for Mac
When you create a new project, it has one key signature that lasts for the entire project. You can create key signature changes in the Signature track. After you have added at least one key signature change to a project, you can create additional key signature changes using the key signature display in the control bar. You can delete key signature changes in a project, but you can’t delete the initial time signature.
When Enable Complete Features is selected in Logic Pro > Settings > Advanced, you can add key signature changes to a project in the Signature List, Signature track, or Score Editor.
Create a key signature change
In Logic Pro, do one of the following:
Place the playhead at the position you want to add a key signature, click the Add Signature button
, choose Create Key Signature Change, then choose a key in the Key Signature dialog. You can also click a position in the Signature track’s key signature area with the Pencil tool, then choose a key in the Key Signature dialog.
When the Signature track is reduced in height, only a single Add Signature button is visible. Clicking the Add Signature button reveals options for adding either a time signature change or key signature change. When the Signature track is at full height, Add Signatures for both adding a time signature change and a key signature change are visible.
You may need to expand the Signature track until you see separate areas for time and key signature changes.
By default, when you create a key signature change on the Signature track, chords on the Chord track and on Session Player regions transpose to match the new key signature. In the Key Signature dialog, you can change these settings so that chords do not transpose with the key signature change by deselecting the checkboxes under Transpose Chords.
On Chord Track: Deselect this checkbox to have chords on the Chord track be unaffected by the key signature change.
On Session Player regions: Deselect this checkbox to have chords on Session Player regions unaffected by the key signature change.
In the Key Signature dialog, you can enable the use of double flats and sharps by deselecting the “Disable bb, x” checkbox.
Click the word Time in the Signature List and choose Key from the pop-up menu, then click the Add Signature button
.
In the Score Editor, double-click a staff between the clef and time signature, then choose a key in the Key Signature dialog. You can also drag the key signature from the Part box to the target time position.
In a project with at least one key signature change, you can create additional key signature changes by placing the playhead at the position you want the key signature to change, then clicking the key signature in the display and choosing a new key signature from the Key Signature pop-up menu.
