Employee plans and associated devices in Apple Business Essentials
Depending on the assigned plan, employee plans allow a user to have one or up to three devices associated with their Managed Apple Account.
Device limits
Depending on which employee plan you’ve assigned, a user can have up to three devices associated with their Managed Apple Account. To ensure fair and proper usage, the following controls are in place:
Devices are associated with a user at the time of sign in.
The association expires after a year.
Temporary devices
In the case of loaner devices or device exchange, devices signed out before 30 days are no longer associated with the Managed Apple Account. If the user signs back in to that device, the time the device has been associated with the user’s account resumes at the day it signed out. For example, if a user signed out a device at day 22, and later signed it back in, their time left would resume at day 22.
Device upgrades
A user can sign in to a new device at any time, as long as the new device’s purchase date is within 60 days. If the device limit has been reached, the user must first sign out of the device that will be replaced. The user can then sign in to the new device.
Plan upgrades
If a user whose plan is for one device is upgraded to a plan with three devices, the first device remains signed in and enrolled in device management. The user can then sign in to two more devices.
Plan downgrades
When downgrading a plan from a three device plan to a one device plan, ensure the user has only one device signed in when the plan is changed. If more than one device is signed in, all devices are signed out and the user must sign in the device they want to continue using.
