Assign a plan in Apple Business Essentials
You can assign a plan to specific Smart User Groups, manually created User Groups, users, or devices.
Employee plan assignment
To add users to employee plans, you can assign them directly or using user groups (Smart User Groups or manually created User Groups). If a user is assigned to multiple plans, either directly or using user groups, the plan that allows more devices and features takes precedence. Depending on the plan that’s selected, users can have either one device or up to three devices. Employee plans can’t be used with Apple TV.

Device plan assignment
Device plans are useful where the device won’t have a dedicated user, like an iPad that is used as a kiosk or an Apple TV in a conference room. If a device is assigned a plan, that device can’t be associated with a user-assigned plan. For device plans with AppleCare+ for Business Essentials, coverage for assigned devices begins immediately after the plan is assigned to the device. To add a device to the device plan:
The device must appear in the Devices section
The device must be enrolled in MDM using Automated Device Enrollment

Assign a user group to an existing employee plan
In Apple Business Essentials, sign in with a user that has the role of Administrator.
Select Subscription in the sidebar, then locate the plan you want to assign the user group to.
Select the plan you want.
Select User Groups, then select the search field to search for a group to add.
Select to add the group.
To add more user groups, repeat this step.
Select Continue, review the plan updates, then select Update.
Assign a user to an existing employee plan
In Apple Business Essentials, sign in with a user that has the role of Administrator.
Select Subscription in the sidebar, then locate the plan you want to assign the user to.
Select the plan you want.
Select Users, then select the search field to search for a user to add.
Select to add the user.
To add more users, repeat this step.
Select Continue, review the plan updates, then select Update.
Assign a device to an existing device plan
In Apple Business Essentials, sign in with a user that has the role of Administrator.
Select Subscription in the sidebar, then locate the plan you want to assign the device to.
Select the plan.
Select Devices, then select the search field to search for a device to add.
Select to add the device.
To add more devices, repeat this step.
Select Continue, review the plan updates, then select Update.
