Combine shapes in Pixelmator Pro on iPad
Combine multiple shapes
When you make a new shape in Pixelmator Pro, it’s automatically added to its own layer. You can combine shape layers in a few different ways.
In Pixelmator Pro on iPad, select two or more shapes in the canvas.
In the toolbar at the bottom of the canvas, tap
, then choose one of the following:
Unite Shapes: Combines multiple shapes into a single shape layer (without changing their appearance in the canvas).
Subtract Shapes: Removes any part of the lower layer (in the Layers list stacking order) that’s covered by the top layer, then combines the result into one shape. If you selected more than two shapes, the lower layers are combined, and the top layer is subtracted from the combined shape.
Intersect Shapes: Removes all areas of selected shapes that don’t overlap in the canvas, combining the result into a single shape layer. If you selected more than two shapes, the lower layers are combined, and then all areas of the new shape that don’t overlap with the topmost shape are deleted.
Exclude shapes: Removes areas where the shapes overlap, combining the result into one shape layer. If you selected more than two shapes, the lower layers are combined, and then the area where the topmost layer overlaps it is deleted.
Note: The original shapes are saved as component sublayers in the combined shape layer (in the Layers sidebar), and can be edited like any other shape to change the appearance of the combination. To view the components tap the in the combined shape layer.
Merge the components of a combined shape
You can merge the sublayers of a combined shape to simplify the contents of the Layers sidebar—useful when you’re sure you don’t want to further modify the shape.
In Pixelmator Pro on iPad, combine two or more shapes.
Touch and hold the combined shape layer in the Layers sidebar, then choose Merge Shape Components.
