Create and manage Pages templates on Mac
If you create a document that you want to use again as a model for other documents, you can save it as a template. Creating your own template can be as simple as adding your company logo to an existing template, or you can design a completely new template.
You can add your custom templates to the template chooser, save them as a file to share with others and use them in Pages on your iPad or iPhone. Custom templates that you create on your Mac are grouped in the My Templates category of the template chooser and are shared across all your devices.
Save a document as a template
If you’re signed into iCloud and have iCloud Drive turned on when you save your custom template, it’s available on all your devices (but not in Pages for iCloud).
Select File > Save as Template (from the File menu at the top of your screen).
Click an option:
Add to Template Chooser: Type a name for the template, then click Choose.
It is seen across all your devices if you’re signed into iCloud and have iCloud Drive turned on when saving.
Save: Type a name for the template, then select where you want to save it.
If you want to email the template to others or to yourself, save it to your computer. You can attach the template file to an email message.
Install a template from another source on your Mac
You can install a custom template that you received as an attachment by adding it to the template chooser in Pages.
Note: If you created a custom template and chose Add to Template Chooser while signed into iCloud, it’s already installed on all your devices and available in the My Templates category of the template chooser.
Double-click the template file (it has the file extension “.template”), then click Add to Template Chooser.
You can set Pages to always open new documents from a specific template instead of the template chooser.
Rename or delete a custom template
If you’re signed into iCloud and have iCloud Drive turned on, deleting a custom template deletes it from all your devices.
In the template chooser, Control-click the template name, then select Rename or Delete.
If you’re renaming, type a new name, then press Return.
Custom templates always appear in My Templates in the template chooser. You can’t rearrange templates and you can’t delete templates that came with Pages.
