About Schoolwork Handouts
Handouts provide a way for teachers to share information or homework with students. Handouts can consist of:
a list of recipients (an entire class, or one or more students in a class)
a name
instructions
a deadline
activities (apps, files, photos, videos, scanned documents, links and hand-in requests)
Using the different types of activities available in Handouts, you can incorporate a variety of apps into your class instruction and homework assignments.
If your school has enabled the Student Progress feature in Apple School Manager and students complete activities you assigned in a Handout, all available progress data is shared with you. The progress-reporting app automatically sends information about how students are doing as they complete the activity in the app (for example, time spent on the activity, the percentage completed, quiz scores, hints used or points earned). The data available depends on the type of activity and is defined by the app developer. At a minimum, every progress-reporting app sends time spent data. For other activities (for example, a link or PDF), you can only see whether or not a student has marked the activity as done. When you request a hand-in activity from a student or give each student a copy of a file to work on, you see whether or not the student submitted a hand-in activity or worked on the file.
You can post a Handout to an entire class, post it to one or more students in a class, or save a Handout as a draft until you are ready to post it later.
If other teachers are contributors to your class when you post a Handout, your Handout is visible to and editable by the other teachers. Draft Handouts are not visible to other teachers until you post the Handout.
Note:
You need an internet connection to post a Handout. If your internet connection is interrupted, you can save your Handout as a draft to send later, as long as it does not contain any file attachments.
Schoolwork provides you with 200 GB of iCloud Drive storage for distributing and collecting Handout activities.
