iCloud: Back up fewer photos and videos to save storage

Back up fewer photos and videos to save storage

You can check how much iCloud storage is used to back up photos and videos from your iOS device, and you can use less storage by backing up fewer photos and videos.

To check the amount of storage iCloud uses to back up photos and videos from your iOS device, do one of the following:

  • On your iOS 8 device: Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage, tap the name of your iOS device, then look below Photo Library in the Backup Options list.

  • On your iOS 7 device: Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage, then look below Camera Roll in the Backup Options list.

To back up fewer photos and videos, do either of the following:

  • Delete photos or videos from the Recently Added album on your iOS 8 device (Camera Roll on your iOS 7 device).

  • Import photos and videos to your computer from the Recently Added album on your iOS 8 device (Camera Roll on your iOS 7 device), then delete them from your iOS device. For instructions, see the Apple Support article Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer.
