An iOS device is online if it’s turned on (with or without a passcode lock) and connected to a data network, such as EDGE, 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi. A Mac is online if it’s turned on and connected to the Internet using Wi-Fi or Ethernet. AirPods are online if they’re out of their case and within about 33 feet (10 meters) of one of your iOS devices.
If a device is online, a green dot appears beside the device in the My Devices list.
