Add music and photo files in Motion

You can add files from your music and photo libraries to a project via the Motion Library. Your music and photo content appear in two categories: Music and Photos. (However, you cannot import rights-protected video content from Apple Music into a Motion project.)

Important: If your Mac’s operating system is macOS 10.14, the Music category in the Motion Library is labeled iTunes.

Note: Although a connected iPod appears on your system as a hard disk, you can only browse for and import iPod files that are stored as data. Music transferred to the iPod via the Music app cannot be imported into Motion.

Add a file from Music

In the Library in Motion, select the Music category.
Select a subcategory, such as Music, Movies, or a playlist, then select a file from the stack.
Do one of the following:
- Click the Apply button to the right of the preview area.
- Drag the file to the canvas, Layers list, Timeline, or Audio Timeline (if the file is an audio track or is a video that contains audio).

Note: Rights-protected AAC files cannot be imported into Motion and do not appear in the file stack.

Add a file from a photo application

In the Library in Motion, select the Photos category.
The albums (or libraries) appear in the adjacent navigation pane.
You can change the photo library shown here by choosing a different photo app in the General pane of Motion Preferences. You can select only one photo app at a time. See General preferences in Motion.
Select an album, then select a file from the stack.
Do one of the following:
- Click the Apply button to the right of the preview area.
- Drag the file to the canvas, Layers list, or Timeline.
When importing large-scale images into Motion, you can import the files at their native resolution or at the resolution of the Motion canvas. See Set the import size of large images in Motion.

If you import Cinematic mode videos from the Photos category, you can change the focus and depth of field settings created during recording on supported models of iPhone. See Intro to Cinematic mode video in Motion.
