About classes, Handouts, and students in Schoolwork
Schoolwork automatically populates the sidebar with all of your Apple School Manager classes. If your school’s IT administrator assigned you the “Create, edit, and delete classes” privilege in Apple School Manager, you can also create, edit, and remove classes within Schoolwork. If no classes appear in the sidebar or if you want to change any teacher or student information, contact your school’s IT administrator.
Handouts provide a way for you to share information or homework activities with your students. For example, you might send a student or an entire class a Handout with instructions to watch an attached movie, submit an essay, or complete a task in an app that provides student progress. As you create and post Handouts, Schoolwork displays your Handouts in the Handouts tab. To view Handouts, tap Handouts in the bottom tab, then tap:
Recents. Use the Recents view to see all active Handouts across all classes, including draft Handouts.
[class name]. Use the class views to see active and completed Handouts associated with the selected class.
Drafts. Use the Drafts view to see Handouts you saved as a draft and haven’t posted yet.
Favorites. Use the Favorites view to gain quick access to your favorite Handouts.
Imports. Use the Imports view to see Handouts you imported from iTunes U, third-party apps, or Learning Management Systems.
[class name] archive. Use the class archive view to see view-only copies of Handout archives.
Use the progress views to focus on how your students are doing across activities and Handouts. To view student progress, tap Students in the bottom tab. After observing how students are doing, you can adjust activities based on student needs.
Note:
Teacher and student information in Apple School Manager is automatically synced with Schoolwork. As students move in or out of classes in Apple School Manager, updates are reflected in Schoolwork.
You can view the status of Schoolwork at the bottom of the sidebar and swipe down in the sidebar or Handouts tab to update Schoolwork content and the status messages.
