iPhone 18 Pro USB-C Connector (pSIM)

Before You Begin

Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Crosshead 44 mm half-moon bit

  • Crosshead 100 mm half-moon bit

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Ethanol wipes or isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes

  • Nitrile or lint-free gloves

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)

  • Torque driver (teal, 0.75 kgf cm)

  • Torque driver (orange, 0.85 kgf cm)

  • USB-C charge cable

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Important

A replacement USB-C connector includes a replacement shim. The shim (923-15905) is also available as a separate orderable part.

Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

  1. Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove seven crosshead screws from the USB-C connector. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.

    • Caution

      • Four of the screws are on the vertical edges of the enclosure.

      • Use the long crosshead bit to remove two screws on the bottom vertical edges. Ensure that the torque driver and bit are as parallel to the enclosure as possible to avoid stripping the screws.

  2. Separate the shim from the USB-C connector as shown. Save the shim for reassembly.

  3. Lift the ends of the two stacked USB-C connector flex cables off the connectors.

  4. Gently separate the USB-C connector from the enclosure.

  5. Gently separate the microphone (attached to the USB-C connector) from the sidewall of the enclosure.

  6. Break the adhesive bond between the USB-C connector and the enclosure. Then remove the USB-C connector from the enclosure.

    • Caution: Don’t pull on the USB-C flex cables while peeling the USB-C connector from the enclosure.

Reassembly

  1. Use ESD-safe tweezers to remove the USB-C connector adhesive gasket and all residual adhesive from the enclosure.

  2. Use an ethanol wipe or IPA wipe to clean the opening and remove any remaining adhesive from the enclosure.

  3. If you’re installing a replacement USB-C connector, use ESD-safe tweezers to peel six of the seven adhesive liners off the replacement part. Don’t peel the liner off the microphone (4).

  4. Position the USB-C connector in the enclosure without pressing it into place. Insert a USB-C charge cable into the port to ensure proper alignment of the USB-C connector.

    • Ensure that all the screw holes are aligned. Then firmly press the USB-C connector for 20 seconds to adhere it to the enclosure.

  5. Use the teal torque driver and long crosshead bit to install two new crosshead screws (923-15902) (L2, L3) into the USB-C connector.

  6. Route the USB-C connector flex cables along the sidewall of the enclosure and align the ends of the flex cables with the connectors on the logic board.

  7. Press the ends of the two stacked USB-C connector flex cables to their connectors.

  8. Press along the length of the USB-C connector to fully adhere it to the enclosure.

  9. Peel the adhesive liner (1) from the microphone. Then firmly press the microphone (2) to adhere it to the sidewall of the enclosure.

  10. Peel the adhesive liner off a replacement shim and position the shim in the enclosure in the area shown. Then firmly press the shim for 20 seconds to adhere it to the enclosure.

  11. Use the orange torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-15900) (K3).

  12. Use the teal torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-15896) (K5).

  13. Use the blue torque driver and crosshead bit to install three new crosshead screws.

    • Two screws (923-15901) (K6, L1)

    • One screw (923-15903) (L4)

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
