Before You Begin

Warning

  • Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

  • A battery should be replaced only by individual technicians with the knowledge and experience to repair electronic devices. Improper battery replacement, improper handling of parts, or failure to follow the provided instructions could result in fire, injury, data loss, or damage to the device, parts, or other property.

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (10-34 Ncm)

  • Heat-resistant gloves

  • Safety glasses with side shields

  • Sand

  • Sand container

  • Torx Plus 4IP 25 mm bit

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Important

If you replace this part, it's recommended to run Repair Assistant in order to finish the repair. Repair Assistant will be available on the device after you’ve completed all reassembly steps.

Removal

Note: If you've already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

Important

Remove the display. Then continue to step 1.

  1. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 4IP bit to remove 13 4IP screws.

    • Lift the battery from the enclosure.

      •  Caution

        • While removing the battery from the enclosure, ensure that the battery flex cable doesn't get caught on the logic board.

        • Avoid touching the thermal interface material on the logic board.

Reassembly

Warning

Visually inspect the enclosure for loose or extra screws and small parts that may have attached to magnetized areas, as these can damage the battery and cause safety issues.

  1. Hold the top right and lower left corners of the battery as you position it in the enclosure. Align the battery using the enclosure features.

    • Ensure that the flex cables aren't trapped between the battery and enclosure while installing the battery.

    • Carefully guide the battery flex cable through the opening in the battery.

    • Caution: Properly align the battery to avoid damaging it during installation.

  2. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 32.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 4IP bit to install 10 new 4IP screws (923-15884) (B3-C6) into the battery in the order shown.

    • Caution: Ensure that screws are installed at a 90-degree angle to the battery to avoid stripping the screws.

  3. Set the torque value on the adjustable torque driver to 17.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 4IP bit to install three new 4IP screws (B1, B2, F1) into the battery in the order listed below.

    • 923-15888 (B1)

    • 923-15888 (B2)

    • 923-15887 (F1)

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:

Warning

Gently shake the iPhone. If the battery feels loose, remove the display and the battery. Then complete the battery reassembly steps with another replacement battery.

Important

  • A new battery isn't charged. After you've completed all removal and reassembly steps, charge the device for a few minutes.

  • After you've completed all reassembly steps, Repair Assistant will be available on the device and is recommended to finish the repair. Learn how to initiate Repair Assistant.
