Access iWork documents stored in iCloud

When you create iWork documents on an iOS device set up with iCloud, the documents appear automatically in iCloud iWork and on your other iOS devices set up with iCloud. Your iWork documents also appear automatically in iWork apps on your Mac if it has OS X v10.8 or later and is set up with iCloud. If you have a Mac with OS X v10.7.5 or a Windows computer, you can download and upload documents.

Note:   iCloud iWork is compatible with these document types: iWork ’09 (Keynote, Pages, or Numbers), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), plain text, and CSV.

Open or save documents on a Mac with OS X v10.8 or later

You can open and save iWork documents directly in iCloud on your Mac with OS X v10.8 or later. Your Mac must have Keynote 5.2 or later, Pages 4.2 or later, or Numbers 2.2 or later installed and iCloud Documents & Data set up.

  • To open documents in iCloud, choose File > Open, then click iCloud in the top-left corner of the Open dialog.

  • To save documents in iCloud, choose File > Save, then click iCloud in the top-left corner of the Save dialog.

    After you save an iWork document in iCloud from your Mac, iCloud pushes the document to your other devices set up for iCloud Documents & Data. You can also access the saved document in iCloud iWork.

Download documents from iCloud iWork to a Mac or Windows computer

Before you can open a document stored in iCloud from a Windows computer or a Mac with OS X v10.7.5 or later, you must download the document to your computer from iCloud iWork.

  1. In iCloud iWork, click the button for the type of document you wish to download: Keynote for presentations, Pages for word processing, or Numbers for spreadsheets.

    If necessary, select the folder that contains the document.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Select a document and choose an option from the Download menu.

    • Select multiple documents to download, and choose Download document type from the Action pop-up menu .

      • On your Mac, Shift-click to select multiple adjacent documents or Command-click to select multiple nonadjacent documents.

      • On your Windows computer, Shift-click to select multiple adjacent documents or Control-click to select multiple nonadjacent documents.

Upload documents from a Mac or Windows computer to iCloud iWork

You can upload documents to iCloud iWork after editing or creating them on your Windows computer or your Mac with OS X v10.7.5 or later.

  1. In iCloud iWork, click the button for the type of document you wish to upload: Keynote for presentations, Pages for word processing, or Numbers for spreadsheets.

    If necessary, select the folder that contains the document.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Drag one or more documents from the desktop to the iCloud iWork window.

    • Choose Upload document type from the Action pop-up menu , select one or more documents, then click Choose.

      The amount of data being uploaded and the estimated time remaining for the upload is displayed in the Uploading Document window.

Documents you upload from your computer initially have generic icons in iCloud iWork. After you open a document on your iOS device or Mac with OS X v10.8 or later, the document’s icon is updated in iCloud iWork.
