Share your child’s age range with apps
With Age Range for Apps, you can help your child get age-appropriate experiences by sharing their age range with third-party apps in the App Store. You can decide whether to always share your child’s age information, require permission for each request, or never share.
Note: Apps can access only an age range—your child’s birthday is kept private. Your choices sync to any iPhone, iPad, or Mac where your child is signed in to the same Apple Account. Age Range for Apps isn’t available in all countries or regions, and it works with third-party apps whose developers have chosen to support it.
Set up Age Range for Apps
Open your child’s settings:
On iPhone or iPad: Go to the Settings app, tap Family, then tap your child’s name.
On Mac: Go to System Settings, click Family, then click your child’s name.
Tap or click Apple Account & Password, then tap or click Set Up next to Age Range for Apps.
Follow the onscreen instructions.
Depending on your child’s device, you may need to update their Apple Account or create a Child Account for them with an updated birthday. See Create a Child Account for your kid’s Apple devices.
Change when you share your child’s age range with apps
Open your child’s settings:
On iPhone or iPad: Go to the Settings app, tap Family, then tap your child’s name.
On Mac: Go to System Settings, click Family, then click your child’s name.
Tap or click Apple Account & Password, then tap or click Age Range for Apps.
Tap or click the pop-up menu next to Share with Apps, then choose an option for your child’s age range:
Always: The age range is shared automatically whenever an app requests it.
Ask First: Your child is asked each time an app requests it.
Don’t Share: The age range is never shared.
View apps that requested your child’s age range
If you choose Always or Ask First when you set up Age Range for Apps, you can view and update details for apps that requested your child’s age range.
Note: To view and update these details across devices, make sure your child is signed in to the same Apple Account.
Open your child’s settings:
On iPhone or iPad: Go to the Settings app, tap Family, then tap your child’s name.
On Mac: Go to System Settings, click Family, then click your child’s name.
Select Apple Account & Password, then tap or click Age Range for Apps.
Select an app on the list.
You can see which apps requested the age range and whether it was shared.
To update the age range or your sharing preference, select Share Age Range Again.
