Lock the screen of your Mac
You can keep your Mac secure by locking the screen.
Immediately lock the screen of your Mac
Do any of the following:
On your Mac, choose Apple menu
> Lock Screen.Press Touch ID, if it’s available on your Mac or Magic Keyboard.
Press the Lock Screen button, if it’s available on your Magic Keyboard.
Unlock your Mac
Do any of the following:
Press any key, then enter your password.
Use Touch ID, if it’s available on your Mac or Magic Keyboard.
If other users have an account on the same Mac, and someone else is currently logged in, move your pointer over that person’s name on the Lock Screen, then click your account to log in.
Change the look of the Lock Screen
On your Mac, choose Apple menu
> System Settings, then click Lock Screenin the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Do any of the following:
Show password hints: Turn on “show password hints.”
Show a message: Turn on “Show message when locked,” click Set, enter the message you want to display in the login window, then click OK.
The Lock Screen shows your Screen Saver after a period of inactivity, which you can set. See Change Lock Screen settings.
