If your device doesn’t appear in the sidebar when connected to Mac
If you connected your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your Mac using a USB cable and don’t see it in the Finder sidebar, check the following:
Check that the cable is properly connected. When your Mac and device are connected correctly, you should see that your device is charging.
Make sure that the device is unlocked and the Home Screen is visible.
Check that Finder settings are set to show your device in the sidebar. See the instructions below.
Set Finder settings to show your device in the sidebar
Connect your device to your Mac.
You can connect your device using a USB or USB-C cable, or a Wi-Fi connection. See Sync content between your Mac and iPhone, iPad or iPod touch over Wi-Fi.
Click in the Dock to open a Finder window, then choose Finder > Settings.
Click Sidebar.
Below Locations, select the CDs, DVDs and iOS Devices tickbox.
Check the sidebar again, below Locations, to see if your device is showing.
Click the device to see the syncing options.
If your device still doesn’t appear in the sidebar, see the Apple Support article If your computer doesn’t recognise your iPhone or iPad.
