Mac Pro (2023) Top Input/Output Board

Before You Begin

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)

  • Adjustable torque driver (0.3–1.2 Nm)

  • Antenna tool

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torx Plus 5IP 50 mm bit

  • Torx Plus 8IP 89 mm bit

 Caution

This procedure requires System Configuration. After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, learn how to initiate the System Configuration process.

Removal

  1. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 5IP bit to remove the four 5IP screws (923-03457) from the antenna connector cowling. Then remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.

    • Caution: Avoid damaging the antenna coaxial cables and connectors when handling them.

  2. Use the antenna tool to lift the ends of the four antenna coaxial cables off the connectors on the top input/output (I/O) board.

  3. Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to remove the six 8IP screws (923-03413) from the top I/O board. Then remove the top I/O board from the space frame top plate.

    • Caution: Ensure that the antenna coaxial cables don’t obstruct the top I/O board as you remove the top I/O board.

Reassembly

  1. Use the black stick to hold back the antenna coaxial cables as you position the top I/O board.

  2. Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to partially reinstall the six 8IP screws (923-03413) into the top I/O board.

  3. Use ESD-safe tweezers to position the ends of the four antenna coaxial cables over the connectors as shown.

    • Important: Ensure that the two inner antenna coaxial cables are routed on top of the outer antenna coaxial cable.

  4. Use the blunt end of the antenna tool to press the ends of the four antenna coaxial cables to the connectors in the order shown.

  5. Position the antenna connector cowling over the ends of the antenna coaxial cables.

  6. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 11.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 5IP bit to reinstall the four 5IP screws (923-03457) into the antenna connector cowling.

  7. Place the space frame on its feet to temporarily reinstall the housing.

  8. Flip up the housing latch and rotate it 90 degrees counterclockwise to unlock the housing. Use the latch to slowly lower the housing over the space frame.

  9. Plug both ends of the USB-C charge cable into the Two Thunderbolt 4 ports to ensure top I/O board alignment. Adjust the alignment of the top I/O board until both ends of the USB-C charge cable are easy to insert and remove.

  10. Set the torque value on the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver to 0.5 Nm. Reach into the housing through the opening. Use the adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to fully reinstall the six 8IP screws into the top I/O board.

  11. Remove the USB-C charge cable and the housing.

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
