Mac Pro (2023) PCI Express Slots Frame

Before You Begin

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • #1 Phillips screwdriver

  • Adjustable torque driver (0.3–1.2 Nm)

  • Ethernet cable

  • Torx Plus 8IP 25 mm bit

  • Torx Plus 8IP 89 mm bit

Removal

  1. Use the #1 Phillips screwdriver to fully loosen the two #1 Phillips screws on the upper clamp plate. Then remove the clamp plate and save it for reassembly.

    • Note: The two #1 Phillips screws are captive and stay attached to the clamp plate.

  2. Slide all the PCI Express (PCIe) slot covers out of the PCIe slot frame.

  3. Stand the computer on its handles with the feet facing up. Then use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP 89 mm bit to remove the three 8IP screws (923-03423) from the top of the PCIe slots frame.

  4. Stand the computer on its feet with the blower facing you. Then use the adjustable torque driver and 8IP 25 mm bit to remove the four 8IP screws (923-03409) from the left side of the logic board.

  5. Tilt the PCIe slots frame as shown and lift it out of the space frame.

Reassembly

  1. Align the holes on the bottom of the PCIe slots frame with the rubber gaskets on the PCIe slots frame mount plate. Then tilt the PCIe slots frame into position.

    • Note: Replacement rubber gaskets are available only with a replacement PCIe slots frame mount plate.

  2. Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP 25 mm bit to partially reinstall the three 8IP screws (923-03423) into the top of the PCIe slots frame.

  3. Set the torque value on the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver to 0.5 Nm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 8IP 89 mm bit to fully reinstall the three 8IP screws into the top of the PCIe slots frame.

  4. Plug both ends of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet ports to ensure PCIe slots frame alignment. Adjust the alignment of the PCIe slots frame until the ends of the Ethernet cable are easy to insert and remove.

  5. Rotate the computer so the blower is facing you. Keep the torque value on the adjustable torque driver at 0.5 Nm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 8IP 25 mm bit to reinstall the four 8IP screws (923-03409) into the side of the logic board. Then remove the Ethernet cable.

  6. Slide the PCIe slot covers into the PCIe slots frame.

  7. Position the upper clamp plate as shown. Then use the #1 Phillips screwdriver to fully tighten the two #1 Phillips screws into the upper clamp plate.
