Mac Pro (2023) and Mac Pro (Rack, 2023) Apple Thunderbolt Input/Output Board and Apple Input/Output Card

Before You Begin

Remove the following part before you begin:

Tools

  • #1 Phillips screwdriver

Removal

  1. Use the #1 Phillips screwdriver to fully loosen the two #1 Phillips screws on the upper clamp plate. Remove the upper clamp plate and save it for reassembly.

    • Note: The two #1 Phillips screws are captive and stay attached to the clamp plate.

  2. Slide the PCI Express (PCIe) retention latch to the right to unlock it.

  3. Grasp the edges of the Apple Thunderbolt input/output (I/O) board and pull it straight out of Slot 8.

  4. Grasp the edges of the Apple I/O card and pull it straight out of Slot 7.

Reassembly

  1. Insert the Apple I/O card into Slot 7. Push firmly and evenly until the card is fully inserted.

    • Important: Ensure that the Apple I/O card is fully inserted in the slot before proceeding to the next step.

  2. Insert the Apple Thunderbolt I/O board into Slot 8. Push firmly and evenly until the board is fully inserted.

    • Important: Ensure that the Apple Thunderbolt I/O board is fully inserted in the slot before proceeding to the next step.

  3. Slide the PCIe retention latch to the left to lock it.

  4. Position the upper clamp plate as shown. Then use the  #1 Phillips  screwdriver to fully reinstall the two #1 Phillips  screws into the clamp plate.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
