Mac Pro (Rack, 2023) Top Cover and Access Door

Before You Begin

  • No tools are required for this procedure.

Important

If the computer is installed in a rack, refer to the Mac Pro (Rack) Essentials Guide to remove the computer from the rack before beginning this procedure.

Removal

  1. Slide the release latches on the sides of the top cover to the unlocked position. Then tilt up the top cover.

  2. Pull the top cover away from the front plate to remove it.

  3. Push the silver tabs on the access door to reveal the release levers. Then pull the levers to unlock the access door.

  4. Pull the access door away from the housing to remove it.

Reassembly

  1. Align the left edge of the access door with the edge of the housing opening. Then position the access door over the housing opening.

  2. Firmly press the access door near the release levers as shown until the levers click into place.

  3. Align the edge of the top cover with the slot in the front plate.

  4. Ensure that the long edges of the top cover align with the slots in the housing.

  5. Firmly press the top cover near the release latches until they click into place.

 Caution

  • After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, learn how to initiate the System Configuration process.

  • System Configuration is required if you’ve installed a replacement front input/output board, top input/output board, logic board, or SSD modules.

  • If you replaced the logic board or SSD modules, the computer won’t start up and the status indicator light will flash amber until you restore the computer using a separate Mac. Follow the instructions to restore the Mac. Then initiate the System Configuration process.
