Mac Pro (2023) and Mac Pro (Rack, 2023) Blower

Before You Begin

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (0.3–1.2 Nm)

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torx Plus 8IP 89 mm bit

Removal

  1. Slide the bottom SSD module cover latch to the left (1) and pull the bottom SSD module cover toward you (2) to remove it from the computer. Save the bottom SSD module cover for reassembly.

  2. Squeeze the top and bottom of the blower duct to release the left side of the blower duct.

  3. Press the two areas shown to release the two clips on the right edge of the blower duct.

  4. Remove the blower duct from the computer.

  5. Rotate the computer 180 degrees so the logic board is facing you. Use the 0.3-1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to fully loosen the three captive 8IP screws in the logic board.

    • Note: The screws are visible through the holes in the logic board and will remain in place when fully loosened.

  6. Pull the logic board stiffener to the left to create clearance for the blower (1). Then rotate the blower out of the computer as shown (2).

    • Note: If the blower doesn’t move freely, repeat step 5. Then remove the blower.

Reassembly

  1. Inspect the blower contact springs for damage.

    • Important: If the blower contact springs are damaged, you must replace the logic board.

  2. Ensure that the oval grommet isn’t pinched or protruding. If the grommet is pinched or protruding, use the black stick to correctly position it.

  3. Insert the mounting pin on the blower into the oval grommet on the logic board and position the blower in the computer.

  4. Pull the logic board stiffener to the left (1), then push the blower until it’s flush against the logic board (2).

  5. Hold the blower flush against the bottom and side of the logic board. Use the 0.3-1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to partially reinstall one captive 8IP screw on the other side of the logic board.

  6. Continue to hold the blower flush against the bottom and side of the logic board. Use the adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to partially tighten the two remaining captive 8IP screws.

  7. Set the torque value on the adjustable torque driver to 0.5 Nm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to fully reinstall the three 8IP screws into the logic board.

  8. Insert the two clips on the left side of the blower duct into the slots on the logic board.

  9. Squeeze the top and bottom of the blower duct to insert the tab hook on the left side of the blower duct into the slot in the logic board.

  10. Slide the bottom SSD module cover latch to the left (1). Position the bottom SSD module cover over the opening. Then push the left edge of the bottom SSD module cover to lock it into place (2).
