Set up iCloud Keychain and iCloud Passwords
You can use iCloud Keychain on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac to securely store passwords and more in iCloud and access them only on the devices you choose. You can also turn on iCloud Passwords on a Windows computer to access Safari Passwords in Chrome. For an overview of these iCloud features, see Intro to iCloud Keychain and iCloud Passwords.
Note: If you’re using iOS 13, iPadOS 13, macOS 10.15, or later, you need to set up two-factor authentication before you can turn on iCloud Keychain.
Set up iCloud Keychain on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Keychain.
Turn on iCloud Keychain.
Tip: Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch can automatically fill in saved passwords and credit card information in Safari if AutoFill is turned on. To check your AutoFill settings, do either of the following:
Passwords: Go to Settings > Passwords (or Passwords & Accounts) > AutoFill Passwords. Turn on AutoFill Passwords, and make sure iCloud Keychain is selected under Allow Filling From.
Credit cards: Go to Settings > Safari > AutoFill. Turn on Credit Cards. iCloud Keychain saves the number and expiration date but not the security code.
Set up iCloud Keychain on your Mac
On your Mac, choose Apple menu
> System Preferences, then do one of the following:
macOS 10.15 or later: Click Apple ID, then click iCloud.
macOS 10.14 or earlier: Click iCloud.
Select Keychain.
Tip: Your Mac can automatically fill in saved passwords and credit card information in Safari if AutoFill is turned on. To check your AutoFill settings, open Safari, choose Safari > Preferences, then select the AutoFill pane. Make sure “User names and passwords” and “Credit cards” are selected. For credit cards, iCloud Keychain saves the number and expiration date but not the security code.
Set up iCloud Passwords on your Windows computer
The iCloud Passwords feature on Windows allows you to access your Safari passwords in Chrome using a browser extension. This feature is available in iCloud for Windows version 12 or later. Find out which version of iCloud for Windows you have.
To use iCloud Passwords on your Windows computer, you need to sign in to the iCloud for Windows app using an account with two-factor authentication turned on, and have iOS 14, iPadOS 14, macOS Big Sur 11, or later installed on the device receiving the security code.
Important: Turn off password saving in Chrome before you set up iCloud Passwords. See Manage passwords in Google Chrome Help.
If it isn’t already installed on your computer, get the iCloud for Windows app.
Open the iCloud for Windows app, then select Passwords.
Follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the iCloud Passwords Chrome extension.
