System requirements for iCloud

These are the recommended system requirements and minimum system requirements for iCloud.

Recommended system requirements

iCloud¹ requires an Apple Account, an active internet connection, and up-to-date software. If you meet the recommended system requirements below, you can take advantage of the latest iCloud features and get the best overall experience. At the bottom of this page, you'll find the minimum requirements for each feature.

Minimum system requirements by feature

iCloud is supported on the following OS versions or later: iOS 11 on iPhone 5s, iPad (5th generation), iPad Pro, or iPad mini 2; watchOS 4 on an Apple Watch; macOS High Sierra 10.13 on a Mac; tvOS 11 on an Apple TV (4th generation); or visionOS 1 on an Apple Vision Pro. Certain features may have different requirements which are listed below.

Account Recovery Contacts

Account Recovery Contacts are available on iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

• iOS 15 or iPadOS 15

• macOS Monterey 12

To set up an account recovery contact, all of your devices must be updated to the latest iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, and tvOS. If you have an older device that can't update to iOS 15, iPadOS 15, or macOS Monterey 12, you need to sign out of iCloud on that device.

To become an account recovery contact, you need at least one device with iOS 15, iPadOS 15, or macOS Monterey 12 or later.

Apple Invites

Apple Invites is available on iPhone and web browsers.
