
Use video effects during a video call in FaceTime on Mac
During a video call in the FaceTime app or a third-party video conferencing app, you can use Portrait, Studio Light, or Center Stage to change the way you appear on camera.
Use video effects in FaceTime

During a video call on your Mac, in the FaceTime app
or a third-party video conferencing app, click your tile.
Choose any of the following:
Center Stage: Automatically frames you (and anyone else with you) as you move around the field of view during a video conference call.
Portrait: Automatically blurs the background and puts the visual focus on you. To adjust the amount of background blur, click
in the menu bar, click
next to Portrait, then use the slider.
Studio Light: Dims the background and illuminates your face. To adjust the light intensity, click
in the menu bar, click
next to Studio Light, then use the slider.
Reactions: Allows you to use hand gestures to add reactions. When Reactions is turned off, hand gestures are disabled in all video conferencing apps, but you can still add reactions in FaceTime. Click and hold your tile, then click one of the icons that appears. See Add reactions during a video call.
Background: Allows you to turn on a virtual background. To change the background, click
in the menu bar, click the thumbnail next to Background, then click

, or
to choose a color, a built-in image, or a photo. See Change your background during a video call
Use video effects in third-party video conferencing apps
During a video call in a third-party video conferencing app on your Mac, click
in the menu bar.
Choose any of the following:
