Change Live Multicam settings in Final Cut Pro for iPad
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, after you connect the devices you want to use as camera angles in your Live Multicam recording, you can choose recording settings so that all angles are recorded with the same format. If a connected device doesn’t support the settings you choose, it uses the closest settings available. You can also customize the recording settings for an individual camera angle.
You can control what information is displayed on your iPad and each connected device during Live Multicam recording, and you can rename and reorder angles in the Live Multicam screen in Final Cut Pro.
Choose Live Multicam recording settings
Go to the Final Cut Pro app
on your iPad.
In the Live Multicam screen, tap
in the toolbar, then adjust any of the following settings:
Resolution: Choose the frame size for your Live Multicam recording (720 HD, 1080 HD, or 4K).
Note: The maximum stream quality during a live recording is 720p HD, but your connected devices record videos with the format you set, if the devices support it.
Orientation: Choose Portrait (vertical) or Landscape (horizontal).
Frame Rate: Choose from a list of common video frame rates.
Note: For Live Multicam sessions, you can use any combination of frame sizes and frame rates except 4K at 60 fps or 120 fps.
Codec: Choose the codec for your Live Multicam recording. You can choose HEVC (H.265), Apple ProRes, Apple ProRes RAW, or Apple ProRes RAW HQ.
Note: Recording ProRes RAW requires supported iPhone models.
Color & Dynamic Range: Choose a color space for your Live Multicam recording.
SDR (Rec. 709): A broadly supported standard dynamic range (SDR) format commonly used for high-definition (HD) TV.
HDR (HLG): A high dynamic range (HDR) format that captures more levels of brightness than SDR video.
Choose HDR (HLG) only if your device has an HDR display (for example, the 12.9-inch Liquid Retina XDR display). On devices without an HDR display, timeline clips won’t look accurate.
Log: A log format that preserves highlight and shadow detail by using a logarithmic transfer function to capture a wider dynamic range than SDR video. This option creates a flat, desaturated image for color grading in log-based workflows. Recording Log requires iPhone 15 Pro or later.
Log 2: A log format that preserves highlight and shadow detail but with a wider color gamut than Log, providing greater flexibility and precision for video capture and color grading. This option creates a flat, desaturated image for color grading in log-based workflows. Recording Log 2 requires supported iPhone models.
Preview with LUT: Turn on this setting to preview your video in SDR or HDR with the vibrancy of the original scene. This setting appears when you record in Log, Log 2, Apple ProRes RAW, or Apple ProRes RAW HQ.
Log to SDR (Rec. 709): Preview your video in SDR (Rec. 709).
Log to HDR (HLG): Preview your video in HDR (HLG).
Anyone Can Start Recording: Leave this setting turned on if you want any connected device to be able to start or stop recording for all devices. If you turn off this setting, only the iPad running Final Cut Pro can start and stop recording.
Camera Indicators: Turn on this setting to display indicators in the Live Multicam recording screen for each camera angle.
Recording Time Left: Choose whether to always show the recording time left, show it only when recording time is low, or turn off this setting.
Battery Level: Choose whether to always show the battery level, show it only when low, or turn off this setting.
LUT: Turn on this setting to display an indicator when Preview with LUT is active.
Timecode: Turn on this setting to display timecode while recording.
Note: On some iPad models, you may need to swipe up to see all the settings.
After you choose settings, tap outside the settings or tap
in the toolbar to close them.
To start a recording, see Record a Live Multicam session.
Change recording settings for an individual camera angle
By default, all the connected devices in a Live Multicam session record with the same settings. But there may be times when you want to override the recording settings for a particular angle. For example, you may want to increase an angle’s resolution (frame size) for later reframing in editing.

on your iPad.
Open a Live Multicam project, tap
in the toolbar, then tap Live Multicam.
In the Live Multicam screen, tap
