Configure a Place Card in Apple Business Connect
Customers see details about each of your locations in the Place Card. The Place Card appears in many parts of Apple’s software, from Maps to Siri to Calendar, Messages, and more. As you update information about your location and personalize it with photos, Showcases, and more, your Place Card looks more and more like a true extension of your physical location. Place Cards have various and optional areas that display content based on data provided by the Apple ecosystem and related partners.
You can create, add, and manage Place Card information.
To view a task below, select the plus button next to its title.
Add a logo and cover photo
You can use your existing business logo along with a cover photo in Apple Business Connect. These are used together to create the Place Card header in your Place Card.
For small Business: When you add a logo for your business, it’s used by default for all locations associated with that business. However, you can create different logos for each location. If a cover photo is set up specifically for a location, it takes precedence over the business’s cover photo.
For Enterprise: When you add a logo for your business, it’s used by default for all locations associated with that business. If a cover photo is set up specifically for a location, it takes precedence over the business’s cover photo.
You can’t add a business logo without also adding a cover photo. When both of these are added, you’ve created your initial Place Card header.
Logo guidelines
If you’re adding a logo, it must meet the following requirements:
The logo file format can be HEIC, JPEG, or PNG.
The size must be between 1024 x 1024 and 4864 x 4864 pixels.
Adhere to the photo and text standards and guidelines.
Be approved by Apple.
Cover photo guidelines
To review cover photo guidelines, see Photo information.
When you’re ready to add your cover photo and logo, see Add a logo and cover photo.
Provide a display name
For your display name, there should be no details other than the name. Apple displays this name for your business and customers search for you using this name. The display name must comply to Apple’s standard and guidelines (See Photos, text, and objectionable content and behavior).
Use the following guidelines for your display name:
Must match the name on the storefront or website.
Must not contain descriptions or any other strings.
Semicolons, curly braces, square brackets, and other symbols (punctuation or otherwise) are not valid to include as part of a name.
Must not include symbols such as ®, ©, or ™.
Can include periods, commas, hyphens, apostrophes, and parentheses, as they’re valid forms of punctuation to include as part of a business name (common in the business category and used customarily in the real world). For example, Paul & Eddie’s Café.
If a city name or other locality is part of the business name, the city or locality is allowed. For example, Stella Coffee Beverly Hills.
However, if a city name or locality is given additionally, for instance, when multiple locations exist, city names and localities aren’t allowed to distinguish the individual businesses—for example, Smith’s Family Restaurant (Fresno, CA). In this case, Fresno, CA isn’t allowed.
Must have a correctly specified language. The default language is based on the default of your location. Make sure you verify that the language is correct for your location. See Language lists for Showcases.
Add an “about”
This is an opportunity to tell Apple about your business. This is also the information that Apple displays on the Place Card about your business. The business description must comply to Apple’s standard and guidelines, Photos, text, and objectionable content and behavior.
Depending on the type of business, the description of your business may contain (but isn’t limited to) the following information:
Information about yourself
For example, family run business, woman owned, LGBTQ owned, black owned, medical degrees, certificates, and so on.
What your business is famous for
Your business’s expertise or specialties
The location of the business
Scenic views from your business
The history behind your business
Achievements of your business
Specifying additional languages for the “description”
The default language in Apple Business Connect is based on the default language of the location. If the description is wanted in different languages, a language must be set for each description. The content in the different languages must be consistent with each other. See Language lists for Showcases.
Example 1: Les Deux Magots is a famous café in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area of Paris, France. It once had a reputation as the rendezvous of the literary and intellectual élite of the city. It’s now a popular tourist destination and its historical reputation is derived from the patronage of Surrealist artists, intellectuals such as Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre, and writers such as Ernest Hemingway.
Example 2: Supercuts is a conveniently located hair salon in Cupertino, CA. We offer a variety of services from consistent, quality hair cuts to color services—all at an affordable price. At Supercuts, our stylists are some of the best trained in the business. We listen to you and can recommend the haircut and professional hair care products to help keep your style looking fresh. Both men and women needing haircuts in Cupertino, CA, will feel welcome at Supercuts.
Manage your photos
You may have uploaded many different photos to use with Apple Business Connect. You can add new ones and remove older ones. For more information, see Add, edit, or delete photos.
Provide an address and coordinates
Add your address and latitude and longitude coordinates so customers can find and contact your business.
Address specifics
This is the address of your business where customers can get goods or services at this business location during business hours. It must be:
The address officially listed on your business website
The address that customers use to travel to your business or to find your business
In the same language in which the official address is written
Latitude and longitude coordinates
The latitude and longitude coordinates help locate your business on Apple Maps. Use the following guidelines for reporting latitude and longitude coordinates:
Must be on top of the building, centered over your business
Must not be located on the sidewalk, the road, or the intersection nearest to your business
Must not represent how customers access to your business (for example, the front doors or parking lot entrance)
Manage hours
Hours let customers know when you’re open for business and, in some cases, when you’re closed for business. Standard hours get displayed on the Place Card of your business. Additionally, you can provide special hours, such as for special services you offer, holidays, and special events. Whenever possible, hours shown on your Place Card must match the hours published on your business’s official website.
After you set your hours, the Place Card Preview shows how the hours appear to your customers.
Standard hours
Standard hours are the hours when your business is accessible to customers. You can let Apple know if your business is open for 24 hours for all days, for only specific days, or even a single day. If your business is accessible to customers by appointments only, list the hours during which appointments can be made.
Special hours—service
Special hours are optional and provided only if you’re providing a special service for your business. These hours aren’t designed to be permanent.
With service hours, you can tell customers about the services you offer at your business and the hours during which that service is open and available to customers. For example, auto parts hours, happy hour, mailbox hours, hair service, and so on. These hours can be viewed by selecting the Hours Name dropdown menu. You can specify which days of the week service hours are available and further specify different hours the service is offered for each day of the week.
Note: Service hours can be provided only for the services that are currently listed in Apple Business Connect.
Special hours—temporary
Temporary hours are optional and are provided only if you’re providing hours for your business are valid for a single day or multiple days. These hours are typical for adjusted schedules or closures during holidays, maintenance, or other occasions. With temporary hours, you can let Apple know the whole day or the date ranges when your business is temporarily open or closed by setting a start and end date.
Add a phone number
This is the phone number of your business that is published on your official website and customers call to reach your business. The phone number must contain the country code.
Note: Phone number extensions aren’t supported at this time.
Add a website
This is the primary website of your business that Apple displays for your business Place Card in Apple Maps. The website must comply to Apple’s standard and guidelines, Photos, text, and objectionable content and behavior.
The website should follow these guidelines:
Always provide the top-level domain of your business website.
Can’t be a third-party website.
Apple doesn’t consider social media sites (for example, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and so on) as the primary website of a business. However, if your business has only a social media website, then it can be provided to Apple.
Select an action button
For more information on Actions, see Add custom Actions and Create Action Links.
Manage a Showcase
A Showcase is a module on the Place Card that allows you to highlight new items, deals or sales, or other promotional content, and include a call to action for a customer to select. Showcases are dynamically presented on the Place Card, and they’re specific to a location and time period (for example, 30 days). You can create your own Showcase, or if you’re an Enterprise company, you can have a Third-Party Partner create them for you.
A Showcase can contain a headline, a body, an image, and a call-to-action (CTA) button. The Showcase CTA button can also contain a link to promote a specific opportunity for your customers. The CTA button opens a registered experience on the Place Card. Some Actions are available only through the Business Connect API.
Showcases can also appear in several languages. See Language lists for Showcases.
Showcase requirements
Showcases must:
Adhere to the photo and text standards and guidelines.
Be approved by Apple.
Showcase expirations
Showcases are designed to highlight something new related to each location for your business to keep your customers coming back. A current Showcase expires 30 days after it first appeared.
Scheduling Showcases for the future
You should plan Showcases in advance, so customers always see something new each month. If you have more than one location, you can use the same Showcase for each business, or a different one, depending on your business strategy.
Important: Because Apple reviews each Showcase, plan at least 3 calendar days before you want the Showcase to go live. Editing a Showcase while it’s in review may delay its approval.
To create, review, and delete a Showcase, see Edit a Showcase.
Add your app
You can add a link and information about your business app. The URL for the app must be properly formatted, and the app must be the official app of your business, not an app that your business is promoting or affiliated with. The app should also be available in the country or region where the business operates.
Add your category
Categories help customers to discover your Point Of Interest (POI) with an icon in Apple Maps and they are updated regularly. If you can’t find an appropriate category, please reach out to Business Connect Support.
Important: Categories were updated recently. Apple Business Connect significantly increased the number of top level categories and sub-categories to better fit with the behavior and expectation when using the search feature in Apple Maps. Go to your business and location categories pages and check that your categories are accurate, as they may have changed, or, if there is a category that better fits your business.
You must select one and only one primary category to represent your business. Even if you feel you have two primary business functions that are of equal importance, you must still select only one.
Be as specific as possible when selecting the primary category for your business. Primary category indicates your main business function. Such as, Grocery Store, Chinese Restaurant, Indian Grocery Store, Vegan Restaurant, and so on. The primary category is used by Apple to represent your business as a POI.
In addition to the primary category, you can also select up to four optional categories to tell Apple about additional functions related to your business. For example, if you’re a Grocery Store but you’re also a bakery and also a café, you can select Bakery and Café as two additional categories.
Manage “good to know” attributes
Good to Know are attributes about your business that would be good for your customers to know. These are a list of amenities, facilities, and experiences you would like to associate with your business.
For example, your business accepts credit cards and contactless payment methods, has parking and accessible parking, has gender-neutral restrooms, is good for lunch, known for a fine beer and wine selection, its casual ambiance, and so on.
Good to Know attributes appear as a list of good to know facts with a respective glyph on the Place Card of your business.
Manage status
The status field is used to let customers know whether your business is currently open or closed.
