Metronome project settings in Logic Pro for Mac
The Metronome project settings combine all parameters for MIDI click and Klopfgeist—a virtual metronome sound source. Klopfgeist can be used in addition to, or in place of, MIDI click sources.
Note: Klopfgeist is a software instrument found in the Utility subfolder of the Instrument Plug-in pop-up menu of instrument channel strips. When you create a new project, Logic Pro for Mac automatically creates a software instrument channel strip with the Klopfgeist plug-in loaded. You can choose a different metronome sound by loading any other Logic Pro or third-party software instrument on that channel strip. The channel strip is named Click and placed in the Mixer to the right of the software instrument channel strips. It is not assigned to a track and is therefore only visible when you select the All button in the Mixer menu bar. The Click channel strip is set to solo safe, so the click remains audible when you solo any channel strip.

Options
The following options are available from the shortcut menu when you Control-click the Metronome button in the control bar.
Simple mode checkbox: Select Simple mode to have the metronome click during playback, count-in, and recording when you turn it on. When Simple mode is selected, the other metronome settings are unavailable.
Click while recording checkbox: The checkbox determines whether the metronome will click during the count-in (if the count-in is turned on) and while recording. Selecting and deselecting the checkbox has the same effect as clicking the Metronome button in the control bar during recording.
Note: The Metronome button in the control bar changes to gray with a purple metronome icon when this checkbox is selected and the “Click while playing” checkbox is unselected. This indicates that the click is audible during recording, but not during playback.
Only during count-in checkbox: The checkbox sets the condition for the metronome to click during the count-in (if count-in is turned on) but not to click during the actual recording. The checkbox is only available if the “Click while recording” checkbox is selected.
Click while playing checkbox: Turns the metronome on during playback. This is the same as clicking the Metronome button in the control bar.
Polyphonic clicks checkbox: The metronome sends notes, as defined for bars, beats, and divisions. Two or three notes may be sent simultaneously at the beginning of each measure, for example. If this option is unselected, the metronome transmits only one note at a time.
Source
In Logic Pro, you can choose between two sound sources for the metronome click. Audio Click uses the software instrument plug-in Klopfgeist to generate the clicks, and MIDI Click sends the clicks as MIDI note events to an external MIDI sound module.
Note: This setting is stored with the Logic Pro preferences file and applies to any project you’re loading.
In addition to a standard metronome (which produces a click on each beat with an accent on the downbeat), Logic Pro can create elaborate metronome click patterns. Turn each of the following rhythmic units on or off to determine where the metronome produces the clicks.
Bar checkbox: Generates separate note events for bars (on the downbeat).
Group checkbox: For compound and composite signatures, generates note events for each group.
For details about creating beat groups, see Create time signature changes.
Beat checkbox: Generates separate note events for beats.
Division checkbox: Generates separate note events for divisions.
Note: You can change the division value in the Custom display of the control bar.
Tip: To have the metronome play clicks on each beat for simple meters, and play clicks only for each group on compound and composite meters, select the Group checkbox and deselect the Beat checkbox.
Audio Click (Klopfgeist) checkbox: Turn the audio click on or off for the Klopfgeist plug-in or any plug-in loaded on the Click channel strip. You can adjust the click sound with the following controls:
Note field: Defines the note number of generated notes assigned to bar, group, beat, or division.
Velocity field: Defines the velocity of generated notes assigned to bar, group, beat, or division.
Tone slider: Adjusts the Tonality parameter of the Klopfgeist plug-in on the Click channel strip to change the sound from a short click to a pitched percussion sound, similar to a wood block or claves.
Volume slider: Sets the output level of the click sound by adjusting the volume fader of the Click channel strip the Klopfgeist plug-in is loaded on.
Tip: You can further alter the click sound by opening the Klopfgeist plug-in window and adjusting other parameters. See Klopfgeist in Logic Pro for Mac.
Output pop-up menu: Allows you to route the output of the Click channel strip to a different set of hardware outputs, if the currently used audio device has more than two outputs.
When Enable Complete Features is selected in Advanced settings, the following are available:
MIDI Click: The following parameters apply to the MIDI click:
Channel field: Defines the MIDI channel of generated notes assigned to bar, group, beat, or division.
Note field: Defines the note number of generated notes assigned to bar, group, beat, or division.
Velocity field: Defines the velocity of generated notes assigned to bar, group, beat, or division.
Port pop-up menu: Select a MIDI output port or external MIDI sound module for the metronome.
