Manage your library
The Apple TV app library contains shows and movies you've purchased, rented, and downloaded. In your library, you can explore family purchases, import your own home videos, hide purchases, and delete downloads to keep your library organized.
Important: If you're using a TV or living room device, you can watch and share family purchases, but you can't download, import, or hide purchases in your Apple TV app library.
Share purchases made by family members
If you use Family Sharing, you and your family members can share purchases in the Apple TV app.
Note: You can’t create a Family Sharing group directly in the Apple TV app. You must start a new family group and invite people to join using a Mac, iPhone, or iPad. See the Apple Support article Set up Family Sharing.
To access another family member’s collection, go to the Apple TV app library, select Family sharing, then select a family member.
Download a movie or TV show on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows, or Android devices
You can download a movie or TV show to watch later when your computer or mobile device is offline.

Go to the Apple TV app
on your computer or mobile device.Go to the movie or TV show you want to download.
Select
or select
, then choose Download.
Automatically download items on iPhone, iPad, or Mac
You can set up automatic downloading for TV shows and movies.
Downloadable shows include Apple TV Originals, shows from your Library, and apps you're actively streaming in Continue Watching. You must be connected to Wi-Fi to download.
On iPhone or iPad: Go to the Settings app
on your iPhone or iPad, tap Apps, tap TV, then turn on Automatic Downloads.When turned on, the next two episodes you start in Continue Watching are automatically downloaded. Once you finish watching, the items are automatically deleted.
On a Mac: In the Apple TV app
on your Mac, choose TV > Settings, click General, then select Movies, TV Shows, or both.When turned on, TV shows and movies you add to your Library and purchases you make on other devices are automatically downloaded to your Mac.
Delete a downloaded item from your iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows, or Android device
You can delete downloaded items from your Apple TV app library to free up space on your computer or mobile device.
Go to the Apple TV app
on your computer or mobile device.Go to the library and do any of the following:
Mac and Windows: Select
on the item, then choose Remove Download.iPhone: Tap Downloaded, swipe left on the item you want to remove, then tap Delete.
iPad: Tap Downloaded, tap Edit, select the item you want to remove, then tap Delete.
Android: Tap
. Tap the box next to the downloaded item you want to remove, then tap
.
Create a playlist on Mac or Windows
You can create custom compilations of the movies and TV shows in your library for playback in any order you choose.
Go to the Apple TV app
on Mac or Windows.Do one of the following:
Enter a name for the playlist.
To add items to the playlist, click a category under Library in the sidebar (Movies, for example), then drag an item on the right to the playlist name in the sidebar.
Edit a playlist on Mac or Windows
Go to the Apple TV app
on Mac or Windows.Select a playlist name under Playlist in the sidebar.
Do either of the following:
Change the playback order of items: Drag the items on the right into the order you want.
Remove an item: Select
to the right of the item, then choose Remove from Playlist.Removing an item from a playlist does not remove it from your library or storage device.
Import home videos from Mac or Windows
You can import your own video files from your Mac or Windows computer, and watch them in the Apple TV app.
Go to the Apple TV app
on Mac or Windows.Do one of the following:
Mac: Choose File > Import. Locate a video file on your Mac, then click Open.
Windows: Select
at the top of the sidebar, then choose Add Files To Library or Add Folder To Library. Locate a file or folder on your Windows device, then select Open.
Imported videos appear in the Home Videos category in the sidebar.
Note: To import video files from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to the Apple TV app on your Windows device, see Install the Apple Devices app.
Hide purchases on Mac or Windows
You can hide purchased movies or TV shows in the Apple TV app so they don’t appear in your library or in Family Sharing.
Go to the Apple TV app
on your computer or mobile device.Go to the library and find the item you want to hide.
Select
, then choose Delete from Library.
