Edit from the Photos app in Pixelmator Pro on Mac
You can open images from the Photos app to edit in Pixelmator Pro and then save the changes back to the original image in your photo library, preserving all layers, adjustments, effects, styles, and formatting.
In Pixelmator Pro on Mac choose File > New From Photos, select the image you want to edit, then click Open.
Edit the image.
Choose File > Modify Original in Photos to save changes.
Pixelmator Pro creates a sidecar file to preserve the edits you made as layers.
Note: By default, Pixelmator Pro is set up to make a sidecar file when you edit and modify an image from the Photos app. If you want to have Pixelmator Pro overwrite your original image with a flattened file, go to Pixelmator Pro > Settings > Editing, and deselect “For images opened from Photos” under Preserve Edits.
Choose File > Close.
