Record video in Final Cut Camera
With Final Cut Camera, you can record professional video on your iPhone or iPad and connect wirelessly to Final Cut Pro for iPad to record multiple camera angles with Live Multicam.
Record video with Final Cut Camera as a standalone camera app
Open the Final Cut Camera app on your device.
In the camera screen, tap
to start recording.To pause or end recording, tap

Record video in a Live Multicam session
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, set up a Live Multicam project.
In Final Cut Camera, tap
in the camera screen.Follow the instructions in Connect Live Multicam camera angles in Final Cut Pro.
In the Live Multicam screen in Final Cut Pro for iPad or in Final Cut Camera on a connected device, tap
to start recording on all devices.To pause or end recording, tap

Record video directly to an external storage device
With Final Cut Camera and supported iPhone models, you can record video directly to an external solid-state drive (SSD).
To record to an external storage device, you need:
iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max
A USB-C cable rated USB 3.2 Gen 1x1 or better (with a minimum speed of 5 Gbit/s)
An external SSD connected using the USB-C cable and formatted with the ExFat or APFS format
If you use your external SSD with iPad and iPhone only, the popular ExFat format is acceptable. If you use your external SSD with Final Cut Pro for Mac, the APFS format is recommended.
Open the Final Cut Camera app on your device.
Connect the external SSD to your device using the USB-C cable.
The name of the device you’re recording to appears at the bottom of the Final Cut Camera screen. (To change where files are recorded, tap
next to the device name, then tap a storage location.)Note: If this is the first time you’re connecting to an external storage device with Final Cut Camera open, you’re prompted to grant Final Cut Camera permission to record video. Go to Settings
> Privacy & Security > Files and Folders, then turn on Final Cut Camera. Quit and reopen the Final Cut Camera app.Tap
to start recording.To pause or end recording, tap

Important: Don’t disconnect the external drive from your device until the recording has finished.
Where your recorded videos are stored
When you record video with Final Cut Camera, media files are saved to the recording location you set. You can view the location of your files.
If you’re recording to internal storage: Media is recorded to a folder on your device. In the Files app
, tap On My iPhone or On My iPad, tap Final Cut Camera, tap DCIM, then tap 100APPLE.
If you’re recording to an external storage device: Media is recorded to a folder on the storage device. In the Files app
, tap the name of the external device, tap DCIM, then tap 100APPLE.
You can import stored media files into Final Cut Pro for iPad using Final Cut Camera (see Initiate media transfers from Final Cut Camera) or the Files app (see Transfer media from Final Cut Camera using the Files app).
Important: If you delete the Final Cut Camera app from your device, any videos you recorded to internal device storage are permanently deleted.
