Intro to Schoolwork
Schoolwork helps you easily distribute and collect assignments, keep an eye on student progress in educational apps, and collaborate one-to-one with students from anywhere, in real time.
Schoolwork provides simple, integrated workflows for teachers and students to share and collaborate. Teachers can share content with students, even when students are out of the classroom. Teachers can assign tasks to students in the form of PDFs, links, documents and even activities within an app. Teachers can easily view class and student progress data, then use the data to determine how students are doing. After determining how students are doing, they can personalise instruction based on student needs. For students, assignments and announcements automatically appear on their iPad, organised by class and deadline. Students have a single place to find content and instruction, to submit work and to view their progress.
Schoolwork serves as a home base for teachers and students, bringing together assignments, student-created work and student progress data all in one place.
See Apple Products for Teaching and Learning for information about the apps that can help you put the power of technology to work in and out of the classroom.
Schoolwork and teachers
The Schoolwork app lets teachers do the following:
View all their Apple School Manager classes in one place. When a teacher signs in, Schoolwork automatically populates the sidebar with all the teacher’s Apple School Manager class information.
Collaborate with students on Handout activities. Teachers can share files with students individually or with an entire class. When teachers share collaborative files, they can review student progress and provide feedback while students are actively working on items.
View activities to see how students are doing and determine if they need extra challenges or attention. Depending on how a student is doing, teachers can request revisions from students, unlock specific activities to give students more time, and return work to students.
View class and student progress. Teachers can assign Handout activities in apps that provide student progress data, then use the class progress view or student progress view to see how students are doing. After observing how students are doing, they can adjust activities based on student needs.
Schoolwork and students
The Schoolwork app lets students do the following:
View all their classes in one place and quickly find new and recent Handouts.
Work on assigned activities, submit work to teachers and view announcements. Students can submit work from the Schoolwork app or an iWork app, or they can use the Share button in the app where they did their work (for example, after creating a video in Clips, students can use the Share button and choose Schoolwork as the share destination).
Collaborate with teachers and other students on Handout activities (for example, editing an essay in Pages for iPadOS). Depending on how a teacher chooses to share a collaborative file, students can edit the item and view feedback from their teacher and other students while actively working on the item themselves.
View activity details to see if their teacher requested a revision, unlocked a specific activity to give them more time or returned their work.
View progress on assigned activities. Students can work on Handout activities, then use their class view and Handout details view to see how they are doing overall in their class and with each Handout activity.
Note: To use Schoolwork, teachers and students must have a Managed Apple ID account. If you need help with your Managed Apple ID account, teachers should contact their school and students should contact their teachers.
