Mac mini (2023 with M2 Pro) Power Supply

Before You Begin

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (0.3–1.2 Nm)

  • Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Metric ruler

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torx T6 70 mm bit

  • Torx T8 70 mm bit

Important

This procedure requires a replacement bus bar adhesive, which is included with a replacement power supply and replacement housing. It’s not a separately orderable part.

Removal

  1. Use the flat end of the black stick to lift a corner of the tab on the bus bar adhesive (1). Then use ESD-safe tweezers to gently peel the tab away from the top of bus bar (2).

    •  Caution: Don’t tear the insulation on the bus bar as you peel the tab. If the insulation is damaged, replace the bus bar.

  2. Hold the tab to pull the rest of the bus bar adhesive off the bottom of the bus bar, as shown.

  3. Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and Torx T8 70 mm bit to remove the two T8 fan standoff screws (923-08146).

  4. Use ESD-safe tweezers to grasp the flat end of the AC inlet retention clip and slide it to the left. Then remove the clip and save it for reassembly.

  5. Pull the AC inlet cowling off the AC inlet. Save the cowling for reassembly.

  6. Rotate the AC inlet 90 degrees counterclockwise.

  7. Use the 10–34 Ncm torque driver and Torx T6 70 mm bit to remove the three T6 screws (923-02796) from the power supply.

  8. Move the power supply slightly toward the center of the housing (1). Then slide the power supply out of the housing (2).

    • Note: If necessary, slightly lift the bus bar to clear the housing.

    •  Caution: Don’t damage the status indicator light flex cable while removing the power supply.

  9. If you are installing a replacement power supply, use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and Torx T8 70 mm bit to remove the two T8 screws (923-08141) from the bus bar. Save the bus bar for reassembly.

Reassembly

Important

Locate the two grooves near the front edge of the interior of the housing before you begin reinstalling the power supply. In reassembly step 11, ensure that you rotate the AC inlet into the back groove.

Important

If you are reinstalling the original power supply, skip to reassembly step 3.

  1. Insert the Torx T8 70 mm bit into the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver. Set the torque value to 0.85 Nm.

  2. Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and Torx T8 70 mm bit to install the two T8 screws (923-08141) into the replacement bus bar.

  3. Remove one piece of bus bar adhesive from the white adhesive backing.

  4. Turn over the power supply. Use a metric ruler to measure 31 mm from the outer edge of the bus bar. Align the bus bar adhesive as shown. Then press the adhesive to the bus bar.

  5. Fold the blue release liner along the perforated line and over the red release liner as shown.

  6. Turn over the power supply and slide it fully into the enclosure (1). Then press the power supply against the right side of the enclosure (2).

    • Important: As you position the power supply in the enclosure, hold down the status indicator light flex cable to ensure that it routes under the bus bar. Don’t continue to step 7 unless the flex cable is properly routed.

  7. Insert the Torx T6 70 mm bit into the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver. Set the torque value to 29.5 Ncm.

  8. Use the adjustable torque driver and Torx T6 70 mm bit to reinstall the three T6 screws (923-02796) into the power supply.

  9. Insert the Torx T8 70 mm bit into the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver. Set the torque value to 0.7 Nm.

  10. Use the adjustable torque driver and Torx T8 70 mm bit to reinstall the two T8 fan standoff screws (923-08146) into the housing.

  11. Rotate the AC inlet 90 degrees clockwise into the back groove.

  12. Position the AC inlet cowling so the foam insulator is on the bottom. Then slide the cowling onto the AC inlet.

  13. Use ESD-safe tweezers to grasp the flat end of the AC inlet retention clip. Then slide the clip under the AC inlet.

  14. Perform reassembly steps 1 through 12 in the logic board procedure to reinstall the logic board. Then continue to step 15 below.

  15. Use ESD-safe tweezers to remove the red release liner from the bus bar adhesive tab.

  16. Use the black stick to fold the adhesive tab back onto the bus bar (1). Then press the tab to adhere it to the bus bar (2).

  17. Use ESD-safe tweezers to remove the blue release liner from the bus bar adhesive.

  18. Press the bus bar as shown to activate the adhesive.

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
