Mac mini (2023 with M2 Pro) Fan

Before You Begin

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torx T6 70 mm bit

Removal

  1. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable driver and Torx T6 70 mm bit to remove the two T6 screws (923-02803) (1) near the center of the housing.

    • Note: These two screws are installed at an angle.

  2. Use the adjustable driver and Torx T6 bit to remove the two T6 screws (923-08139) (2) from the edge of the housing.

    • Note: Use ESD-safe tweezers as needed to remove the screws from the housing.

  3. Tilt up the duct end of the fan and slide it clear of the duct (1). Shift the fan slightly away from the edge of the housing and rotate it clockwise until the rounded end of the fan clears the housing, as shown (2).

  4. Tilt the right side of the fan up as shown (1). Then use the flat end of the black stick to release the adhesive between the fan cable and the logic board (2).

  5. Use the black stick to lift the end of the fan cable off the connector as shown.

  6. Remove the fan from the housing.

Reassembly

  1. Tilt the top edge of the fan down to slide under the edge of the housing. Then partially lower the fan into the housing as shown (1). Press the end of the fan cable to the connector (2). Then lower the fan into place.

  2. Insert the Torx T6 70 mm bit into the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver. Set the torque value to 23.5 Ncm.

  3. Use the adjustable torque driver and Torx T6 70 mm bit to reinstall the two T6 screws (923-02803) (1) near the center of the housing as shown.

    • Note: These screws are installed at an angle.

  4. Keep the Torx T6 70 mm bit in the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver. Reset the torque value to 14.5 Ncm.

  5. Use the adjustable torque driver and Torx T6 70 mm bit to reinstall the two T6 screws (923-08139) (2) near the edge of the housing.
