Add a password hint on Mac
A password hint can help you remember the password for your account on this Mac. The hint appears if you enter the wrong password three consecutive times, or if you click the question mark in the password field in the login window.
Add or change your password hint
To add or change a password hint, change your password.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Users & Groups in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Click the Info button next to your user name on the right, then click Change Password.
Enter your existing password in the “Old password” field, enter and verify a new password, then enter a password hint.
To use the Password Assistant, click the key next to the New Password field. See Tips for creating secure keychain passwords.
Click Change Password.
Add or change someone else’s password hint
An administrator may add a hint or reset the password of other users.
Note: If a user is logged in to this Mac now, you can’t select them.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Users & Groups in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Click the Info button next to a user name on the right, then click Reset Password.
To use the Password Assistant, click the key next to the Password field. See Tips for creating secure keychain passwords.
Enter and verify a new password for the user, enter a password hint, then click Reset Password.
