Work with spatial groups on Freeform boards on Apple Vision Pro

Turn any Freeform board into a 3D workspace by creating spatial groups. With spatial groups, you can pull multiple items off your board—such as images, videos, sticky notes, shapes, and 3D models—and arrange them in 3D space in front of you.

Create a spatial group by dragging an item

Go to the Freeform app on your Apple Vision Pro.
Open a board, then pinch and hold an item on the board and drag it toward you.
An area with a glowing highlight appears, showing where you can place the item.
Release to drop the item.
A spatial group is created.

Create a spatial group from a selection

Go to the Freeform app on your Apple Vision Pro.
Open a board, then select one or multiple items on the board. See Select items.
In the pop-up menu that appears, tap .
The selected items move off the board into a spatial group in front of you.

Add and arrange content in a spatial group

Spatial groups support images, videos, sticky notes, shapes, links, files, and 3D models.

Add an item from the board: Pinch and hold an item on the board, then drag it into the spatial group and release.
Insert new content directly into the spatial group: Tap an option in the toolbar of the spatial group—for example, tap to add a sticky note, tap to insert an attachment, or open the Content Hub, which includes a library of 3D models across a variety of everyday object categories.
Content Hub is available without a subscription for watermarked images and graphics; if you subscribe to Apple Creator Studio, you get unwatermarked content and Image Generation (not available in all countries and regions). 3D models are free with any Apple Account, but are only available in Freeform on visionOS. Resize or rotate an item: Move your hands apart or together to resize, or turn them to rotate.

Note: Changes you make to an item inside a spatial group are mirrored on the board in real time.

Move an item back to the board

Double-pinch the spatial group to open it, or tap , then tap Open.
Pinch and hold the item you want to move.
Drag it out of the spatial group and onto the board, then release.

Note: To move all items in a spatial group back to the board at once, tap , then tap Ungroup.

Export a spatial group as USDZ

You can export a spatial group as a USDZ file to use it in other apps or share with others.

Tap to select the spatial group on the board.
Tap , then tap .
Choose where to save or share it.

View a spatial group on other devices

If you share a board with people who use iPhone, iPad, or Mac, spatial groups appear as live USDZ previews, and they update in real time as collaborators on Apple Vision Pro make changes.

Open the board in the Freeform app on another device.
Tap or click the spatial group, then tap or click to see a preview in Quick Look.
On iPhone and iPad, tap AR to see the arrangement come to life in the room around you.

Content you create spatially on Apple Vision Pro travels with you across your Apple devices.

Note: Text, Markup, 2D Groups, and Tables aren’t supported in spatial groups.
