Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Use a torque driver and the fixed driver super screw bit to remove four super screws from the logic board, two super screws from the SIM assembly, and one super screw from the enclosure. Set aside the screws.
Lift the ends of the five flex cables from the connectors on the logic board.
Remove the SIM tray if applicable and save it for reassembly. Verify that the SIM tray ejector is pushed in.
Slightly lift the logic board and gently separate the SIM assembly from the enclosure along with the attached SIM assembly standin. Remove the SIM assembly from the enclosure.
Caution: The SIM assembly standin must stay attached to the SIM assembly.
Use a torque driver and the Micro stix bit to remove five trilobe screws from the USB-C connector. Set aside the screws.
Use a torque driver and the long JCIS bit to remove two crosshead screws from the USB-C connector. Set aside the screws.
Caution: Keep the driver at a low angle to avoid stripping the screws.
Lift the end of the USB-C connector flex cable as shown and peel the flex cable from the enclosure. Then remove the USB-C connector from the enclosure.
Reassembly
Use ESD-safe tweezers to remove all residual adhesive from the enclosure. Use an ethanol or IPA wipe to clean the enclosure.
Ensure that the two grounding clips are still intact. If they have fallen off or shifted, use tweezers to reposition them.
Remove all of the adhesive liners from the replacement USB-C connector, making note of the areas where adhesive is present.
Insert a USB-C charge cable into the port on the iPhone. Position the USB-C connector in the enclosure. Then press the USB-connector into the USB-C charge cable for proper alignment.
Warning: Ensure that the USB-C charge cable isn't plugged into an outlet.
Press the USB-C flex cable to the enclosure, paying close attention the seven areas where adhesive is present.
Note: To avoid damaging surrounding components, wearing gloves is recommended.
