Resolve Google Workspace user account sync conflicts in Apple School Manager
Overview
When you first use Google Workspace to sync user accounts into Apple School Manager, Auto Merge needs to be disabled and all user account conflicts need to be resolved manually.
If you disconnect from Google Workspace and reconnect, you can choose whether to merge the Google Workspace user accounts. After all the user accounts are synced to Apple School Manager, you can choose to disable Auto Merge to avoid any user account merge issues. Leaving Auto Merge on after the initial sync can cause distinct Apple School Manager accounts to be silently merged with re-imported Google Workspace accounts, potentially overwriting data.
How do sync conflicts occur?
Sync conflicts can occur in one of the following ways:
Auto Merge was turned on.
The Google Workspace Sync connection was disconnected and connected back again, and an Apple School Manager user account was imported using Google Workspace Sync.
An Apple School Manager user account has a Person ID value and a Managed Apple Account that matches a Google Workspace user name you’re attempting to import using Google Workspace Sync.
Manually resolve Google Workspace user account sync conflicts
If you have a conflicting user account with Google Workspace, you can manually resolve the conflict.
In Apple School Manager
, sign in with a user who has the role of Administrator, Site Manager, or People Manager.Select your name at the bottom of the sidebar, select Preferences
, then select Managed Apple Accounts
.Under the Google Workspace Sync section, carefully read the Account Conflict message, then select Resolve.
Select the Download Conflicts button to download a list of account conflicts, then review the conflicts.
If the conflicting accounts are identical to each other in Google Workspace and Apple School Manager, select Merge.
The conflicts should then be resolved.
