Shift to warmer colors at sunset on your Mac
You can set Night Shift and Location Services to turn on automatically at sunset. Your Mac uses your location to determine when it’s nighttime for you. Night Shift adjusts the colors of your display to the warmer end of the color spectrum so it is easier on your eyes when you use your Mac at night. Also, exposure to bright blue light in the evening can make it harder to fall asleep.
Note: To find out if your Mac supports Night Shift, see the Apple Support article Use Night Shift on your Mac.
Step 1: Turn on Location Services and set the time zone
To automatically turn on Night Shift at sunset, your Mac uses your location to determine when it’s nighttime for you. To use this option, you must turn on Location Services.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Privacy and Security in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Click Location Services on the right, then turn on Location Services.
Scroll down to System Services, then click Details.
Turn on “Setting time zone,” then click Done.
Step 2: Turn on Night Shift from Sunrise to Sunset
After you have turned on Location Services, you can turn on the Sunrise to Sunset option in Displays settings.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Displays in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Click the Night Shift button on the right, click the Schedule pop-up menu, then choose Sunset to Sunrise.
