About Managed Apple IDs in iTunes U for web
Apple provides a service, Apple School Manager, to allow organizations to buy content, configure automatic device enrollment in a mobile device management (MDM) solution, create accounts for students and staff, and set up iTunes U courses. An Apple ID created using Apple School Manager is a Managed Apple ID. Managed Apple IDs are owned and controlled by your school or district, which means the institution can reset passwords, limit purchasing and communications, and set up role-based administration.
Instructors using a Managed Apple ID can access iTunes U to create, design, and distribute public courses and private courses for their associated organizations only. When you sign in to iTunes U with a Managed Apple ID, iTunes U provides you with different defaults, options, and features. For example:
Your instructor name and institution are automatically provided by Apple School Manager, and cannot be edited.
You can automatically create managed courses and rosters by adding Apple School Manager information.
You can transfer your courses as long as you specify a Managed Apple ID associated with your organization.
You can add contributors to your courses if you specify a Managed Apple ID associated with your organization or you specify an Apple ID with an iTunes U Public Site Manager institution that is linked to your Apple School Manager organization.
Only managed students associated with your organization can enroll in your course, and you cannot remove students added from an Apple School Manager class.
You have unlimited storage space.
See Apple School Manager Help.
If you want to use iTunes U courses and materials you created before your school or district began using Apple School Manager with Managed Apple IDs, Apple recommends you:
Send a copy of the course to your Managed Apple ID.
When sending a copy of a course, iTunes U does not change anything in your original course but instead creates a snapshot of your original course including all info pages, posts, and course materials. If a student roster exists in the original course, iTunes U does not copy the student roster over to the snapshot version of the course. See Send, accept, and decline a copy of a course in iTunes U for web.
Re-upload any materials not associated with a course using your Managed Apple ID.
For materials in your My Materials Library not associated with a course, you must add those materials again using your Managed Apple ID. Materials you add to My Materials Library are available for you to add to any of your courses. See Add a library material in iTunes U for web.
