Change VoiceOver Speech settings (Voices tab) in VoiceOver Utility on Mac
Use the Voices pane of the Speech category in VoiceOver Utility to change the default speaking voice used by VoiceOver, add additional voices (including voices for other languages), and adjust voice settings such as speaking rate or pitch.
To open VoiceOver Utility, press Command-F5 to turn VoiceOver on, then press VO-Fn-F8.
Note: VO represents the VoiceOver modifier that you press with additional keys to enter VoiceOver commands. By default, you can press Control and Option together or just press Caps Lock.
Option | Description |

Primary Voice | The default voice used by VoiceOver. Click the name of the voice to adjust settings like rate, pitch, and volume, or choose a new default voice. See Change the primary voice. |
Additional Voices | The list of additional voices you’ve added to the Voice rotor. To adjust settings for a voice, click the pop-up menu next to the voice, then choose Edit. To switch between voices while VoiceOver is on, see Adjust the current voice. |
Add button | Add a voice to the Voice rotor. You can add multiple voices for the same language or add a voice in another language. See Add additional voices. |
Remove button | Remove a voice from the Voice rotor. |
Detect Languages | When VoiceOver recognizes the language of the text that it’s reading, it automatically switches to a voice for that language. |
Mute Speech | Turn off VoiceOver speech. This option doesn’t affect VoiceOver sound effects or the audio of other apps. |
