Export a document for the web in Pixelmator Pro on Mac
In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, the Export for Web tool gives you access to specific file formats and controls for optimizing your files for the web. You can also use built-in export presets to export files in convenient formats at optimal compression rates, or you can make your own presets. Additionally, the Export for Web tool allows you to export multiple versions of the same file in different formats and sizes, so you can compare the results.
Note: Export for Web removes metadata from the exported file. If you’d like to retain the metadata, use the Export command.
Export a document for the web using manual settings
In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, click
in the toolbar, then choose Export for Web.
In the Export for Web pane, double click the filename under the thumbnail, then enter a name for the exported file and press Return.
Click the file type pop-up menu, then choose a file type.
Note: By default, Export for Web uses the sRGB color space (the only color space viewable on the web). If you’d like to override this setting, click
, then deselect Convert to sRGB.
For PNG, JPEG, GIF, and WebP exports, click the scale factor pop-up menu, then choose whether to scale your document up or down by the specified factors.
If you’d like to add a suffix to the exported filename, enter it in the Suffix field.
If necessary, modify additional export settings:
Quality (JPEG, WebP, and MP4 only): Drag the slider to set the export quality. Larger values create documents with a larger file size, with less compression. Lower values use more compression to generate smaller file sizes, and may yield results with noticeable compromises in quality.
Use advanced compression (PNG only): Select this option to use a newer compression algorithm, which produces smaller file sizes.
Use 256-color palette (PNG only): Choose this option to reduce the color palette in your exported file to 256 colors only. Pixelmator Pro optimizes the limited range of color to create exports that appear as faithful to the original as possible, with much smaller file sizes.
Optional: To export the file in multiple formats at once, click Add Format, then customize the export settings as you did in steps 3–6.
Click Export, choose a save location, then click Export again.
