Change Notifications settings on Mac
You can change when notifications are displayed, and change notification settings for individual apps.
You can use Apple Intelligence* to summarize long or stacked notifications, making them easier to understand at a glance. See Summarize notifications and reduce interruptions with Apple Intelligence.
Change when notifications are displayed
You can choose whether to allow notifications when the display is sleeping, locked, mirrored, or shared. If notifications are turned off, others can’t see notifications on your computer when, for example, you are giving a Keynote presentation or are away from your computer.
Go to the System Settings app
on your Mac.
Click Notifications
in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Go to Notification Center, then do any of the following:
Choose when previews are shown: Click the “Show previews” pop-up menu, then choose Always, When Unlocked, or Never.
Choose whether to allow notifications when the display is sleeping: Turn “when display is sleeping” on or off.
Choose whether to allow notifications when the screen is locked: Turn “when screen is locked” on or off.
Choose whether to allow notifications when mirroring or sharing the display: Choose “Notifications Off” or “Allow Notifications.”
Choose whether to summarize notifications: Turn Summarize notifications on or off. This option appears when Apple Intelligence* is turned on. See Summarize notifications and reduce interruptions with Apple Intelligence.
Change notification settings for apps
You can change notification settings for individual apps. For each app on your Mac, you can turn notifications on or off, set the notification style, and more.
Go to the System Settings app
on your Mac.
Click Notifications
in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Go to Application Notifications, then click the app you want to change notification settings for.
Turn “Allow notifications” on or off.
If you turned on notifications, select a notification style, then set any additional options you want.
To learn about the options, click
at the bottom of the window.
