Add, remove, and edit photos and videos in a shared album on Mac
You can add, remove, and update photos and videos in an album that you shared.
Add items to a shared album
Go to the Photos app
on your Mac.
Select the photos and videos you want to add.
Click
in the toolbar, then choose Shared Albums.
Click the album you want to add items to, then do any of the following:
Add a comment: Type a comment in the comment box.
Share Live Photos: To let viewers play Live Photos, click Options, then select Live Photo. Deselect the Live Photo checkbox to share Live Photos as still images only.
Share the photo locations: Click Options, then select Location.
Share the provenance of photos: Click Options, then select Provenance.
Share all photo data: Click Options, then select All Photos Data to share Live Photos, Location, and Provenance.
Click Add.
You can also add photos and videos right from a shared album. Click a shared album below Shared Albums in the sidebar, click Add Photos and Videos, select the items you want to add, then click Add.
Remove items from a shared album
Go to the Photos app
on your Mac.
Click Shared Albums in the sidebar.
If you don’t see Shared Albums in the sidebar, hold the pointer over Sharing in the sidebar, then click
.
Double-click a shared album to view it.
Select the items you want to remove, press Delete, then click Delete From All Devices.
Photos removes the items from the shared album but leaves the originals in your library, as well as the libraries of any other participants that saved the items before you removed them.
Save photos and videos from a shared album to your photo library
Go to the Photos app
on your Mac.
Click Shared Albums in the sidebar.
If you don’t see Shared Albums in the sidebar, hold the pointer over Sharing in the sidebar, then click
.
Double-click a shared album to view it.
Select the photos or videos you want to save, then Control-click them and choose Save to Library.
The items you save appear in your photo library and the Imports collection (below Utilities).
Click Library to see the saved items.
Edit a photo in an album shared by others
To edit a photo or video in an album someone shared with you, first save the photo to your library. Edits you make to the photo in your library don’t change the original photo in the shared album.
Go to the Photos app
on your Mac.
Click Shared Albums in the sidebar.
If you don’t see Shared Albums in the sidebar, hold the pointer over Sharing in the sidebar, then click
.
Double-click a shared album to view it.
Control-click a photo, then choose Save to Library.
Click Edit.
Make changes to the photo, then click Done.
Your edited photo appears in your photo library and the Imports collection (below Utilities). To add the edited version of the photo back to the shared album, select the photo, click in the toolbar, choose Shared Albums, then choose the album. The edited image is added to the shared album, and the original remains in the shared album as well.
