Blur effects in Pixelmator Pro on Mac
Pixelmator Pro includes Blur effects to simulate real-world lens behavior, create depth of field, or create an artistic look:
Gaussian creates a smooth, even blur.
Box creates a harder blur that preserves square corners.
Disc uses disc shapes to simulate camera bokeh blur.
Motion creates directional blur that simulates movement.
Zoom simulates the look of zooming in or out while capturing a photo.
Spin creates rotational blur around a center point like a spinning wheel.
Bokeh creates realistic out-of-focus areas that mimic real-world camera lenses.
Tilt-Shift mimics camera focal plane movements to imply shallow depth of field.
Focus creates a tunnel blur around circular in-focus areas.
Blur effect controls
Blur effects have the following adjustment controls in the Effects pane. You can access the controls after applying an effect to a layer or adding an effects layer.
Control | Used in these effects | Description |
|---|---|---|
Radius | Gaussian, Box, Disc, Motion, Bokeh | Drag this slider to increase or decrease the spread of the blur effect. Larger values create softer, more diffused looks. |
Angle | Motion | Drag this slider to define the direction of the blur streak. |
Amount | Zoom, Spin | Drag this slider to adjust the blur’s streak size. |
Ring Amount | Bokeh | Drag this slider to adjust the definition of the out-of-focus rings. |
Ring Size | Bokeh | Drag this slider to adjust the size of the out-of-focus rings. |
Transition | Focus, Tilt-Shift | Drag this slider to control how gradually the blur is applied. Low values create sharp boundaries between focused and blurred areas. High values create smooth, gradual transitions. |
Effect ropes | Zoom, Spin, Tilt-Shift, Focus | Drag these onscreen controls to position areas of focus and blur. If effect ropes aren’t visible, click |
