Share to the Apple TV app from iMovie on Mac
You can save a movie, trailer, or clip on your Mac and then import it into the Home Videos section of your Apple TV library. You can then watch the shared movie in the Apple TV app on your Mac. In the Apple TV app, you can add the movie to your other devices such as Apple TV, iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
Note: If you’re using macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, sharing to iTunes is no longer supported. See the Apple Support article If you can’t share iMovie videos to iTunes.
In the iMovie app on your Mac, select a movie, trailer, or clip in the browser.
Click the Share button in the toolbar, and then click File.
In the dialog that appears, do any of the following:
Set the title of the shared movie: Click the name at the top, and type a new name.
Set the description of the shared movie: Click in the Description field, and type new text.
Set tags for the shared movie: Click in the Tags field, and type tag names separated by commas.
Set the resolution of the shared movie: Click the Resolution pop-up menu and choose an option.
Choose a compression setting: Click the Compress pop-up menu and choose an option.
Click Next, navigate to where you want to save the file, and then click Save.
A progress indicator appears on the right side of the toolbar. Click the progress indicator to see details. The indicator disappears when the operation has finished.
A “Share Successful” notification also appears.
In the Apple TV app, choose File > Import, and then navigate to the location where you saved the file.
Click Open.
The imported file appears under Home Videos in the Apple TV app.
